Under The Glaze Of Hot Press Blue
Spode Ceramics Works, Stoke-on-Trent, UK, 2015
In late 2014 curator Lauren Cookson invited me to create a video installation for her upcoming exhibition ‘Shell’ at the Old Spode Ceramics Works in Stoke. The exhibition was being shown in one of the old drying rooms, and the artwork would be a reflection of the locale. The resulting creation was a two channel video installation, which utilised two drying stillages situated in the space. Canvas was stretched across both stillages to form a screen, to which I created two abstract, multi-layered compositions; the colour blue was the main focus due to Spode’s revolutionary ‘hot press blue’ method.
