Installations

Echoing Ur Sound 2008, (2008)

Remake of the 2004 interactive installation, specially created for InterAlia exhibition. Exhibition held in Chelmsford, to celebrate Marconi.

Enclosure, (2007)

Enclosure was created as a installation to show in an exhibition called 'Enclosure', the show featured three different artists coming together to create an all encompassing installation.

As an artist my video pieces document my explorations into the visuals created by sound. The visuals occurring from these explorations seem to feel unruly and wild.
For this installation I wanted to cage these wild visuals, trapping them inside small monitors, suffocating the images.

Three of the video pieces were created using the sound of a human heartbeat. To me the heart symbolises contained power, and it expresses emotion. It can communicate emotion through rhythmic beats very similar to music. It can express pain, love and anger but it’s trapped inside us, echoing concepts behind this work. The sound accompanying the installation is that of the heartbeat but a series of filters make this seem distant, isolated and trapped.

Echoing Ur Sound, (2006)

Installation created for a solo exhibition, the piece dominated the gallery space. Viewers were able to walk around the piece or sit and watch the light display like a picture show.

This installation is a continuation of my exploration into understanding sound as a visual platform. It focuses on visualising the movement of music, unlike my previous pieces which allowed the viewer to dictate the sound giving it an individual stamp. Like the painting
the sound featured in this piece symbolises a thankyou, a thankyou in this case to music asa whole. An artist is always on a quest, in most cases (including myself), it’s a quest for beauty. I believe understanding the main influence behind my work (music) will open my eyes to
that inner beauty I’m searching for. I've been walking the boundary between art and music the past nine years. I want to try to understand the emotional effects music has on me. Previous works include drawing to music and creating my own sonic landscapes, in a
sense this piece is a combination of the two, It's visualising a sonic landscapes. The Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky spent his whole life working on these very subjects. He wrote many books discussing his theories, theories I have taken on board. His theories
centred around colour relationship in conjunction with musical tone. He addored jazz music and loved Tchaikovsky, this love is projected in his work. Kandinsky work 2D form, but added his own extra dimension through his research. I'm taking his research into the fourth
dimension and I only wish I can get to the level Kandinsky found himself.

Sonic Duet Project, (2004)

Installation created for the annual Outside exhibition held in the grounds of Cuckoo Farm Studios. The piece was created inside a small wooded area, and comprised of two large rectangle shapes map out with white gravel. Speakers memicked the shapes formed on the floor, and played an interview I recorded in 2002 with the lead singer of Echobelly. The interview bounced between the two speakers.

Sonic Circled, (2004)

Re-working of original installation for a solo exhibition. The first piece featured clear water with gravel laying in amongst the water, I found this was restricting the movement of the water. For this piece I coloured the water black and removed the gravel, this produced beautiful ripples and opened my eyes to the visual possibilities. The piece remained interactive, allowing the viewer to create the visuals through their own sounds.

Sonic Circles, (2004)

My first solo exhibition after graduation gave birth to my new ideas and concepts. My fascination with sounds abilities to manipulate water started with this early experimentive installation. An interactive piece where viewers could see sound created by themselves.
