Final piece

2012 piece

The piece is coming along nicely, one thing I was most concerned about did actually happen. I found the sounds created via the hockey stick were not deep enough to seriously effect the water. Instead of trying to completely alter the sound I decided to explore the visual reflection of the water similar to the work seen in the 'Elucidate' video. The light was able to pick up the sonic movements which were unseen to the naked eye. Still heavily working on the video work and would like to experiment more, the sound as a pure piece is working very well, to me sounds very tribal. Anyway here are small glimpses into the work.

Recently recieved a commission 'Journey To The Podium', run by Essex County Council's 2012 Legacy Team, involving eight locaol and national artists. Each artist has been paired with a 2012 olympian sportsman/woman, to create a piece of artwork which will tour the county in a series of exhibitions. I will be working with Chloe Rogers, attacking right sided midfielder of British Hockey Team. Chloe played in Beijing and is a constant feature in the top of the premier league Leicester team. Artist and athlete have been also team up with a school, in Chloe and mine's case is Great Baddow.

I will be using my website to make a series of diary posts on how the pieces are progressing.

The plan is to create a video piece using visual generated from the various sounds feature within Field Hockey. Yesterday I met with Chloe at Chelmer Park, we worked on recording a variety of sounds. Outside influences tried to make the task harder than we expected, firstly negotiating the gate getting on to the hockey pitch. After several minutes trying to force the dead-bolt across, Chloe suddenly had a brain wave, a gate where crypton factor logic was needed. Another element which was making life that little more difficult was the constant sound of two sit down mowers buzzing around us. Luckily reviewing the sound it doesn't seem to have added to much interference. The recording session was very successful. The next stage is to create a complete sonic landscape out of sounds recorded.

Early video work, creating visual understanding.
